NUR 665: PMHNP I: Advanced Practice Psychiatric Mental Health Care for the Adult is the first in a sequence of three mental health clinical courses through the lifespan for the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner student with an emphasis on treatment for adult clients. The psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner student will receive content and training in psychotherapeutic modalities for the adult, which will include individual, family, and group therapy. The course will explore health promotion, disease prevention and wellness with the adult population. Building upon NUR 655 , the psychiatric nurse practitioner student will learn principles of assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of common and chronic mental health adult disorders. Interdisciplinary collaboration and the role of the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner as a member of the health care team will be incorporated. The course will explore regulatory principles and scope of practice when providing care to the adult patient and includes 180 hours of a precepted clinical component where the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner student engages with the adult patient in approved mental healthcare settings.
