PSY 350 - Cultural Psychology Credit(s): 3
This course introduces students to culture’s influence on life span development, human development, and mental processes including self-concept, agency, motivation, emotion, and cognition. Topics cover a review of fundamental theories, current research, and applied issues. Emphasis is placed on conceptualizing individual experiences through a cultural humility lens, appreciating all aspects of living, and recognizing the complexity of intersecting identities of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, education, and social needs. The cultural fabric woven into the micro and macro aspects of society provides a backdrop for exploring how cultural humility and cultural competence come together in professional practice.
