REQUESTED CHANGES
The Master of Public Health Program, offered jointly at the University of Bridgeport and Goodwin University, made the following changes to the Global Health Concentration Competencies to provide further specificity to the learning outcomes:
- Analyze decolonizing global health through the power imbalances, inequities, and biases identified in roles, relationships, and resources.
- Apply ethical approaches in global health research and practice.
- Apply monitoring and evaluation techniques to global health programs, policies, and outcomes.
- Propose sustainable and evidence-based global, multi-sectoral interventions, considering the social and environmental determinants of health.
- Design sustainable capacity strengthening and workforce development strategies for resource-limited settings and low-income countries.
Additionally, the Master of Public Health Program removed the “Mission Statement” from the Concentration Sections.

A review of the catalog identified that some certificate programs had program learning outcomes but they were not listed in the catalog. The programs and outcomes are as follows:
Instructional Design Academic Graduate Certificate Program Learning Outcomes
At the end of this academic certificate program, students will be able to:
- Select an instructional design model that is appropriate for their professional practice.
- Apply the UDL framework throughout the instructional design process.
- Create authentic learning experiences that are tailored to their professional practice.
- Evaluate alignment among instructional components: (a) goals and learning outcomes, (b) learning assessments, (c) teaching methods, and (d) learning materials.
Addiction Counselor Certificate Program Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of all certificate requirements, students will be able to:
- Explain the physiological, psychological, and social factors that contribute to substance use disorders.
- Apply evidence-based techniques to promote and guide recovery from substance use disorders.
- Implement person-centered, strengths-based treatment plans inclusive of documenting, monitoring, and adapting based on an individual’s goals, needs, and preferences.
- Apply ethical standards consistent with the Connecticut Certification Board Code of Ethical Conduct.
Mechatronics Certificate Program Learning Outcomes
- Understand and apply all safety protocols (e.g., personal, LOTO, and OSHA regulations).
- Apply basic algebra, geometry, trigonometry, numbering systems, and digital logic to the solution of problems (e.g., current, voltage, resistance, capacitance, torque, work, power, Newton’s Laws, programming).
- Understand and apply foundational principles of mechanical, electrical, computer, and industrial technologies.
- Conceptualize, design, build, and modify systems.
- Select (i.e., generate specifications), install, debug/test, adjust, use, and/or maintain equipment and software according to requirements.
- Correct malfunctions or correctly identify the expertise required to correct a malfunction.
- Read and interpret technical documentation (e.g., regulations, blueprints, schematics, work orders, data sheets, or manuals).
- Create, maintain, and complete technical documents (e.g., work records, reports, equipment logs, inventories, drawings, and forms).

Welding Certificate Program Learning Outcomes
- Express and implement all safety rules and procedures across the full scope of machining, welding and fabrication disciplines.
- Recognize the theory and application of precision measurement and will be able to apply these skills in a professional work environment.
- Demonstrate an understanding and application of safety rules and procedures related to the use of electrical equipment, welding gases and arc/gas welding procedures.
- Demonstrate an understanding of electrical and gas and arc welding theory
- Apply appropriate processes and demonstrate proficiency to create welded joints in various ferrous and nonferrous metals.
CNC Machining, Metrology, and Manufacturing Technology Certificate Program Learning Outcomes
- Enhance skills and knowledge of CNC machining in manufacturing sectors through collaboration, presentation and continuous learning;
- Earn nationally recognized, portable credentials from the MSSC and the NIMS
- Promote and facilitate upward educational and career mobility by providing students with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to effectively integrate themselves into any manufacturing organization;
- Practice critical thinking and creativity that empowers them to reach their personal, academic and professional goals.
- Apply critical thinking skills, the scientific method and problem analysis in manufacturing.

Robotics and Automation Technician Certificate Program Learning Outcomes
- Explain the process of automation and the equipment involved in its operation.
- Program basic automated digital; and mechanical systems.
- Apply basic manufacturing shop math principles and formulas to automation problems.
- Implement preventive and predictive maintenance processes and operations for robotic and automation equipment.
- Complete troubleshooting on automated and robotic equipment.
- Apply safety techniques to ensure a safe working environment while following industrial safety standards.
- Read and construct technical documents for robotic and automated processes.
Computer-Aided Design Technician Certificate Program Learning Outcomes
- Create simple CAD drawings using Solidworks or other design software.
- Construct detailed blueprints and 3D models.
- Develop skills in creating CAM programming for the creation of G code
- Read and construct technical documents for mechanical and electrical processes.
- Write basic program code for a coordinate measurement machine (CMM) and operate a CMM.
Industrial Service Technician Certificate Program Learning Outcomes
- Apply basic manufacturing shop math principles and formulas to shop problems.
- Implement preventive and predictive maintenance processes and operations.
- Use common hand tools and electronic test equipment for basic troubleshooting and maintenance of mechanical equipment.
- Apply safety techniques to ensure a safe working environment while following industrial safety standards.
- Create detailed 3D drawings in CAD for blueprints and schematics.
Basic CNC Production Certificate Program Learning Outcomes
- Apply basic manufacturing shop math principles and formulas to machining problems.
- Apply safety techniques to ensure a safe working environment while following industrial safety standards in the CNC lab
- Read technical drawings and identify symbols on a blue print.
- Demonstrate basic skills on a CNC machine to include set-up and squaring a block of metal.
- Demonstrate the competencies of a certified production technician (MSSC- CPT)
- Create simple 2D objects with numerical dimensions and geometries.
Manufacturing and Logistics Certificate Program Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate the competencies of a certified logistics technician (MSSC- Logistics)
- Explain the process for managing materials in the manufacturing process.
- Explain the flow of material using lean principles, operational flow strategies, value stream mapping, inventory control, and materials requirements planning (MRP).
- Describe the operations of supply chain and warehouse distribution networks
- Explain transportation strategies to manage domestic and international distribution.
Influencing Organizational Leadership Certificate Program Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate oral and written communication skills concerning complex ideas concisely and persuasively to senior-level executives.
- Evaluate strategies for creating professional relationships with senior leadership that fosters trust and collaboration.
- Develop implementation plan that creates opportunities for organizational change.
- Assess strengths and weaknesses of communication styles and utilize this knowledge to improve interactions with senior leaders.
Bookkeeping Certificate Program Learning Outcomes
- Apply generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) to maintain accurate financial records.
- Analyze and record financial transactions in both manual and computerized general ledger systems.
- Prepare accurate financial statements, schedules, and reports, and conducting analyses to determine financial impacts on an organization.
- Utilize accounting software, such as QuickBooks, to perform bookkeeping tasks and generate financial reports.
- Compile and maintain complex payroll data, understanding tax obligations, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and company policies.
- Recognize ethical issues in the accounting profession and explain the importance of responsible financial practices.
Business Start-Up Certificate Program Learning Outcomes
- Implementing basic accounting practices to manage financial records effectively.
- Utilizing effective marketing strategies to promote products or services.
- Differentiate the various tax responsibilities associated with starting a business.
- Evaluate funding options to finance a business.
- Develop techniques to effectively motivate and manage employees.

REQUESTED CHANGES
In order to reflect the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) new Essentials in the nursing curriculum, courses have been redesigned. This has caused existing courses to be discontinued and new courses to be created.
The following courses have been discontinued:

- NUR 361: Public and Community Health Nursing
- NUR 380: Pharmacotherapeutics Across the Lifespan

The following courses have been created including updated course descriptions.
NUR 353: Introduction to Nursing Research
Course Description: This course provides the student with the opportunity to learn about the research process and its relevance to nursing scholarship and evidence-based practice. Students will be able to differentiate between qualitative and quantitative research methods while advancing clinical judgement skills. Emphasis will be on developing the student’s ability to apply nursing conceptual frameworks, incorporate clinical research findings, and engage in evidence-based practice. By the end of the course, students will be prepared to actively engage with nursing research as informed consumers.

NUR 364: Public and Community Health Nursing
Course Description: This course focuses on the client as a healthcare consumer and member of a community. Emphasis is placed on the nurse’s social responsibility as a citizen who advocates for the attainment of health equity for all, and the role the nurse has in considering individual beliefs, values, and personalized information in communications. Students will integrate community and population health principles and practices in the clinical management of populations across the age continuum. Students will create a proposal for a practice change to improve nursing care for the chosen community.

NUR 383: Pharmacotherapeutics Across the Lifespan
Course Description: This course provides practicing RNs the opportunity to expand their knowledge of pharmacotherapeutics relevant to both their current practice and other specialties. The focus is on health promotion, treatment of illness, and the restoration of wellness in diverse individuals across the lifespan. Further emphasis will be on the use of human body systems as a framework to explore drugs and common diseases. Students will also examine the impact of drug therapy on the health of special populations.

NUR 463: Introduction to Healthcare Policy and Advocacy
Course Description: This course introduces the student to health policy and advocacy within the scope of practice of the Registered Nurse. Students will scrutinize the pivotal role of the registered nurse together with other agencies to shape healthcare policy and strategic planning. Emphasis is on a comprehensive understanding of multifaceted healthcare policy by examining the basic principles of policy and advocacy that encompasses the socio-political and economic dynamics that impact health and healthcare-seeking behaviors. This course will help students demonstrate knowledge, skills, attitudes and motivation for effective political advocacy, activism, and empowerment.

NUR 464: Leadership and Management in Nursing
Course Description: This course provides the students with the opportunity to self-reflect and enhance their capacity for leadership including accountability to the individual, society, and the profession. Students will learn how to develop a participatory approach to their role as leaders, comply with relevant laws, policies, regulations, and integrate diversity, equity, and inclusion as core to one’s practice. Leadership style, conflict resolution and different nursing frameworks will be explored to advance leadership knowledge and skills. Emphasis is placed on engaging in effective partnerships, consideration of the socioeconomic impact of delivery of health care, working effectively in systems, and applying quality improvement principles.
