NUR 675 - PMHNP II: Advanced Practice Psychiatric Care for Children and Older Adults

NUR 675: PMHNP II: Advanced Practice Psychiatric Care for Children and Older Adults is the second in a sequence of three clinical courses through the lifespan for the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner student, with an emphasis on the pediatric and the older adult client. The course will explore health promotion, disease prevention and wellness in the pediatric and older adult populations. The psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner student will receive content and training in psychotherapeutic modalities for children, which will include individual, and family therapy. Building upon NUR 650  and NUR 665 , the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner student will learn principles of assessment, diagnosis, planning, treatment, and evaluation of common and chronic mental health disorders in these populations. Interdisciplinary collaboration and the role of the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner as a member of the health care team will be incorporated. The course will explore regulatory principles and scope of practice when providing care to the pediatric and older adult patients and includes 180 hours of a precepted clinical component where the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner student engages with the identified populations in approved healthcare care settings.
