Assessment and Diagnosis of Mental Health Disorders across the Life Span is a focused psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) didactic course with an emphasis on psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning and evaluation across the life span. This course will provide the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner student with a broad theoretical understanding of psychopathology from an individual descriptive symptom perspective as presented in the DSM-5, including a systematic perspective related to developmental milestones, familial patterns, and socio-cultural factors. The PMHNP student will learn principles of assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and evaluation of common and complex mental health disorders. Diagnostic understanding of various categories of mental health disorders will lay the foundation for effective and optimal treatment planning.
