MSN 665 - PMHNP I: Advance Practice Psychiatric Mental Health Care for the Adult Credit(s): 7
This course is the first in a sequence of three mental health clinical courses through the lifespan for the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner student. The student will employ evidence-based individual, family, and group therapy modalities to promote wellness and disease prevention for the adult psychiatric client. Students will integrate principles of assessment, diagnosis, and treatment including pharmacological and nonpharmacological recommendations, and evaluation of common and chronic mental health disorders. Students will apply nursing and other sciences into advanced nursing practice, person-centered care, quality, and safety. Building on core professional values, nursing knowledge and expertise, students will work within teams to further their interprofessional partnerships. Emphasis will be placed on effective communication and healthcare technology, and informatics in the direct and indirect roles to work toward best patient outcomes. This course includes 180 hours of a precepted clinical component in approved mental healthcare settings.
