Definition of Elective CreditGoodwin University’s academic programs may include elective credit. The courses that fulfill those requirements are dependent on the elective category: General Education, Open, and Directed.
General Education electives may be chosen from any general education course, unless directed by the program. General education courses contain the following prefixes: ENG, MATH, STAT, CAP, COM, BIO, CHEM, SCI, HIS, HUM, PHIL, SPAN, PSY, and SOC.
Directed electives may be chosen through the direction of the program, this is typically courses within the school the program resides. They may be listed within the program curriculum with the course type and level such as ACC 1XX - Accounting Elective or BMM 3XX - Manufacturing Elective. They may also be listed as Directed Electives and amount of credit to complete within that category. The selection of directed electives should be discussed with an Academic Advisor or Program Director to ensure the appropriate course is selected to fulfill the requirement.
Open electives may be chosen from most of the courses offered at Goodwin University. They may be listed within the program curriculum as Open Elective and amount of credit to complete within that category. Courses within selected admissions programs, which requires admission to the program, are not eligible for open elective credit.
