Master of Public Health

The Master of Public Health (MPH) degree program is offered 100% online and is designed to prepare Public Health practitioners for complex local, national and global issues in contemporary Public Health. The objective is to promote equity, inquiry, health, and well-being, as well as develop thoughtful leaders by providing a relevant and innovative competency-based curriculum. There are three concentrations in the MPH program;

  • Global Health
  • Community Health
  • Health Policy and Management

The program consists of 42 semester credit hours; 33 core credits and 9 concentration credits and can be completed in 15 months by taking courses in an accelerated 7 week format.

Program Learning Outcomes

To reach our goals in research, education, and service, we articulate a set of measurable objectives. We assess performance on these measures based on activities at all levels of organization of our academic and professional operations.

Upon successful completion of all program requirements, graduates will be able to:

  1. Develop a public health professional’s understanding of global, national, regional, and local public health issues.
  2. Apply epidemiologic methods to analyze patterns of disease and discuss applications to control health discrepancies.
  3. Understand the relationship between biological, physical, and chemical environmental factors that affect human health.
  4. Apply public health principles of leadership and program management in the accessibility, quality, and health care cost analysis for individuals and populations.
  5. Identify behavioral, social, and cultural factors that influence individual and group health and contribute to health disparities.

Admission Requirements

In addition to meeting the University’s requirements of all graduate program applications, students interested in the Master of Public Health must also:

  • Complete a graduate application for admission.
  • Submit an official transcript verifying receipt of a bachelor’s degree from a college or university accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or the equivalent of this degree from another country with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5.

Students with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or lower must interview with the MPH Director or Associate Director before admittance.  If admitted, they will be conditionally admitted into the program under the following conditions:

  • Meet with Academic Advisor once a month.
  • Maintain a 3.0 in the first semester.

Graduation Requirements

To successfully complete the Master’s in Public Health program, students must:

  1. Complete all MPH program courses with a “C” or higher.
  2. Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Curriculum


Students must successfully complete 12 credits accumulated of the core curriculum prior to taking concentration courses.
