Welding Technology Certificate

This 24-credit certificate program is for the student whose intention is to pursue entry level employment in the field of welding after completing the program. The 24 credits earned for this certificate may also be used toward the fulfillment of the BS Degree in Manufacturing Management. Students are introduced to welding safety and fabrication using common welding processes including: shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW/MIG), flux core arc welding (FCAW) Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW/TIG) and thermal cutting. State of the art equipment is used to create and weld complex parts using a CNC plasma cutter and variety of welding equipment.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of all program requirements, graduates will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and industrial safety standards in welding and fabricating environments.
  2. Interpret technical drawings.
  3. Set-up and operate common hand and power tools, welding machines and thermal cutting equipment utilized in welding and fabrication operations.
  4. Apply basic mathematics to solve problems encountered in metal-working.
  5. Layout, fixture, and fabricate required weldments from technical drawings.
  6. Demonstrate quality weld joints in required positions in all processes.
  7. Evaluate welding and fabricating problems and recognize discontinuities, flaws, and defects in welding processes before taking corrective action to achieve the desired outcomes.

Graduation Requirements

Students must complete all the graduation requirements as stated in the catalog. Students must maintain a GPA of 2.3 in the coursework.

Curriculum


Full-time welding programs meet twice per week for six hours. Day courses are typically offered from 8am-3:30pm with a break and evening courses are typically offered from 3pm-9pm with a break.
