Violence Intervention and Advocacy Certificate

This 18-credit undergraduate academic certificate provides students with an understanding of the nature and form of crises and trauma across a diversity of situations and how to address the sequel from these events. Emphasis is placed on applying evidence-based, culturally appropriate approaches for supporting individuals and families with deescalating these events and developing productive coping skills.

This certificate program can be completed by the student without matriculating in a degree program. By taking the electives specified in the plan of study, the certificate can be completed in conjunction with the AS in Human Services degree. All courses are required, and each must be completed with a minimum grade of “C”.

Certificate Outcomes

Upon successful completion of all certificate requirements, students will be able to: 

  1. Describe current crisis theories, principles, and practices;
  2. Assess crises situations to determine best fit, evidence-based interventions for assisting individuals and families;
  3. Develop evidence-based, culturally appropriate intervention strategies aligned ot the nature of the crises and those in need; and
  4. Apply trauma-informed case management practices that are strengths-based and person-centered.
